Penalties for breaking these rules include

1. Imports and exports of internationally endangered species (CITES)
2. Exports of native species
3. Imports of live plants and animals
- Attempting to export a regulated native specimen
- Subjecting a protected species to cruel treatment, contrary to section 303GP of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999
Penalties for breaking these rules include
- Fines for individuals if caught: $110,000
- Fines for corporations if caught: $550,000
- Penalty for caught: up to 10 years in jail
