Hello valued readers! How's life? Good? Great!!! BUT do you know all these TOTALLY adorbs animals you see at the top of the screen? Well THEIR lives aren't so great right now! This site is to spread the HORRORS of illegal animal trading. Now of course not ALL animal trading is illegal, but the trades that are, multiply day by day, week by week, year by year.
Why are Australia's animals so popular? Because they are rare? Special? Unique? No other country has kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, dingoes, wallabies or platypus' ? Over 80% of Australia's animals are unique to Australia, so it's no wonder that they are so highly sought after! Some people (AHEM *SCIENTISTS* COUGH *HISTORIANS* COUGH) believe that when Australia had drifted away from Gondwanaland (history people, history) that since all the animals were isolated the leftover ones on what remained of Gondwanaland (present day Africa, South America, India, Madagascar, Australia and New Zealand) just died out. The ones that remained in Australia thrived as they were mainly alone for the majority, separated from the animals from the other countries. They also had to adjust to the harsh climate and terrain of Australia and adapt the the constantly changing temperature. Australia has quite intriguing animals too. For instance, did you know that the male platypus is the only poisonous mammal in the world (poisonous spur on each hind leg) and the female is (along with the echidna) one of the two mammals with the ability to lay eggs. Also platypus' are the only animal able to survive equally well on land and in water. I think that makes them pretty special!
Of course, we also have some intriguing dream time stories to show a view on how one nation's perceive why animals are so unique.
